At least, that seems to be my belief, considering the number of magazines I've accumulated:

Eek!  Look at them all!

Plus, there are two bins full of catalogs (homeschooling and otherwise).

Yikes.  Now, in my defense, I don't subscribe to all these magazines.  The vast majority of them were free, and I really enjoy reading magazines.  I didn't want to just throw them out because I knew there would be articles I'd want to keep.

So I'm going through a small pile each day, flipping through and tearing out articles of interest.  Here's how many are left now:

I'd say I'm about halfway done, which isn't bad for a week's work!  My new rule: New issues go on the coffee table, and I go through them at least once a week.  I used to stash them in a bin upstairs, so they were never handy when I wanted to read them.

Well, I thought I had a lot of magazines, but I think you've got me beat ;) I do believe I might win the oldest magazine in the basket contest, however. I'm sure I still have some from the 1990s. I finally had to stop subscribing to all but one or two, because I just don't have time to read them. But if you can get them for free . . . how tempting!

I, too, had to quit subscribing to magazines for a while--they just went into a pile which I never looked at. Now I'm back to just a couple of them--so I'm hoping to keep it manageable this time around!

Our magazines live in a bin next to the downstairs toilet. lol Hey! Don't judge! That's where they get read! I go through the bin at least 4 times a year (I know, I should do it more often) and pull out the articles I like and recycle the unwanted parts.

Hmm, Lynn, I don't think I have any magazines that old!

As for keeping magazines in the bathroom... Whatever works!! =)

why is it we feel we need to collect these. I too have a small stockpile of magazines that are just collecting dust, mold, mildew in a box in our barn. I should just dig them out and burn them lol.

  6. Kate Says:

Sarah, if it's true about the mold and mildew part, I'd definitely burn them! LOL No fun flipping through icky magazine pages!

I was looking through the "design" magazines I had, like Elle Decor and stuff. After flipping through an issue or two, I realized I thought all their stuff was ugly, so I just threw them all out. Ah, freedom! =)

the mold should be an indicatoe of how long they've been out there, eh? heheh. Their all design magazines. I used to be soo in love with HouseBeautiful. Honestly I still am, I just know that with a house full of kids that those kind of decor would not work well around here. ha! ;)

I know what you mean. I used to go through them and tear out pages thinking, "Oh that would be so pretty!" And then I realize they're way out of the realm of possibility.

There's a big difference between looking for inspiration and cultivating discontentment.
