Check Out More "Works for Me Wednesday"

I'm not sure if this Works for Me, as I've just decided to try it, but even if it doesn't, it might work for you!

Daily Themes

If you've ever tried FlyLady you're probably already familiar with the concept.  (I think she calls it her Weekly Plan.)  It's basically focusing on one task each day.  Here's mine:

  • Monday: Laundry Day
  • Tuesday: Cleaning Day (Basic Housework)
  • Wednesday: Desk Day (Paying Bills, Filing, etc.)
  • Thursday: Fun Day (Fun Projects with Chickpea)
  • Friday: Kitchen Day (Dinner Prep for the Week, Baking)
This doesn't mean I'll spend ALL day on that task; my goal is to be done before 2-3pm at the latest.  It just means that once I do laundry/cleaning/whatever, then I don't even have to think about it for the rest of the week.  I've never tried having a weekly kitchen prep day, but we'll see how it goes!

  1. My grandmother was faithful to this type of plan. I think it would really help me if I would implement it too! Thanks for the nudge.

  2. Charlene Says:

I used to do laundry all in one day when I had to go the laundrymat--it wasn't so bad becuase I could do five loads at once. But with my own washer and dryer, it takes all day long if I leave it to one day.

I do better now if I do one load to completion every day--wash, dry, fold or hang, put away.

Having a focus for each day has really worked for me. Good luck with your new experiment!

  4. I am always trying to find a plan that works for me. I've considered trying this type...I think it would work for me!

  5. Lisa Says:

I like the idea of this, I am experimenting with different schedules and ideas so I might have to try this!

  6. So, when do you grocery shop?

  7. Kate Says:

I go back and forth with my laundry schedule. Sometimes I like to do a load every day, but right now doing it all once or twice a week works better with my schedule.

UnfinishedMom, we like to do our grocery shopping as a family in the evening, so I don't really count that as part of my schedule. If I were to do it myself during the day, I'd probably put it in with my desk day, since that's generally the lightest day.

  8. Unknown Says:

I have daily themes as well as monthly themes. Good luck on this nw endeavor.

  9. Amy Says:

I used to do freezer cooking (still do to some degree) and I found that it really freed up a lot of time during my week. You could always use your "kitchen prep" time to meal plan and bake bread for the week or something simple like chop onions.

I've never used Flylady before but I've heard great things about her. :)

  10. Kate Says:

I've always been afraid to try freezer cooking. Knowing me, I'd mess up the entire month of meals! :) I'm sure it saves a TON of time, though.
